What SpeakUp Tracker measures

SpeakUp Tracker™ consists of four validated survey measures to evaluate communication and speak up culture at every stage:
SpeakUp baseline
Quickly assess the current state of communication comfort and psychological safety across your organisation, capturing where people are silent and where they’re confident to speak up.
Pre-training assessment
Measure participants’ communication and behaviour perceptions before training begins to set an accurate benchmark and tailor interventions.
Post-training survey
Evaluate the immediate impact of Crucial Conversations training on confidence, skills application, behaviour change, and training satisfaction.
Impact tracking (pulse survey)
Monitor long-term behavioural shifts and organisational trends with automated pulse surveys that help you spot emerging issues, celebrate gains, and link culture change to measurable financial outcomes over time.
These four survey instruments help you see not only whether people are speaking up, but how often, why, and whether that behaviour is shifting for the better.

Is your investment in speak up skills making an impact?

SpeakUp Tracker™ enables your organisation to establish a communication baseline, measure long-term behavioural changes, and quantify the financial impact of embedding Crucial Conversations training as a measurable driver of organisational performance.

Measure the foundation of your speak up culture.

The baseline communication assessment uses a mix of perception and behavioural-based questions to evaluate your organization's current speak-up culture. You're able to examine key aspects of open communication, management accessibility, and employee comfort in speaking up.

  • Quick setup: Launch our pre-made, confidential survey in minutes to start gathering insights
  • Protect privacy: Ensure employee anonymity with a 5-person minimum per group
  • Guide improvements: Identify strong and weak areas across your company to focus your efforts and measure progress over time

Quantify the behavioural impact of Crucial Conversations training

SpeakUp Tracker™ provides pre and post-training surveys allowing you to measure the real impact of your Crucial Conversations training and investment. By comparing behaviours and perceptions before and after training, you can demonstrate real change in your speak up culture.

  • Measure progress: Compare communication skills before and after training to see real improvement
  • Evaluate training: Assess how well the trainers teach and how much participants learn and use new skills
  • Demonstrate ROI: Track long-term changes in workplace communication to prove the value of your training

Monitor your evolving speak up culture with automated pulse surveys

The SpeakUp Tracker™ pulse survey keeps you informed about your organisation's speak up health over time. Regular, automated check-ins with your training participants helps you identify trends, spot emerging issues, and celebrate improvements in your speak up culture.

  • Regular check-ins: Deploy confidential pulse surveys on a schedule that works for your company
  • See changes over time: Monitor how comfortable people feel speaking up and how behaviour shifts
  • Act quickly: Spot areas that need immediate attention, allowing you to address issues promptly

Frequently asked questions

Does SpeakUp Tracker only measure the impact of Crucial Conversations training?

SpeakUp Tracker has been primarily designed to measure the people and financial impact attributed to developing speak-up cultures through Crucial Conversations training. However, organisations can deploy the FREE Communication Baseline survey in SpeakUp Tracker, to understand how their staff perceive the organisation is performing on general communication and the issues surrounding speaking-up. This survey does not reference Crucial Conversations training but results from the Baseline survey may lead you to review the training as a possible intervention.

Why did you develop SpeakUp Tracker?

We developed SpeakUp Tracker to help OD, L&D, and People & Culture Leaders to measure the impact of their Crucial Conversations training. Trying to measure the impact of any training is typically done with a post-course survey, which does not capture the behavioural impact of the training on an organisation over time. It also does not measure the financial impact. So, the SpeakUp Tracker was designed to continuously measure both outcomes of Crucial Conversations training over time.

How long do surveys typically take to complete?

Our surveys take no more than 4-5 minutes to complete. All are mobile enabled, so easy to complete in any format.

How many surveys are offered?

SpeakUp Tracker™ is a set of four validated surveys that help organisations to measure their current communication state, the pre-training perceptions of each Crucial Conversations training cohort, their post-training perspectives, and the behavioural and financial impact of using the Crucial Conversations skills over time.

All the questions and statements in SpeakUp Tracker™ have been tested over 25 years of data collection, and analysis, and have shown to be both valid and reliable measures of the people factors tracked.

How does it tie to business outcomes?

By linking speak-up culture improvements to financial and organisational outcomes, SpeakUp Tracker™ helps quantify ROI and support strategic decisions.
