What you will learn
Does your team building actually work?
Team development that goes beyond games
If your last team-building activity felt awkward, competitive, or quickly forgotten, you’re not alone. Games can be fun, but they rarely change how teams actually work together.
Crucial Teams is built on the SDI®, an evidence-based assessment backed by over 50 years of social science research and millions of assessments worldwide. It helps teams understand motivation, navigate conflict, and build stronger, more effective working relationships.
If you’re looking for team development that goes beyond icebreakers and drives real, measurable improvement, this is team training that works.

Tackling your team challenges head on
Turn friction into connection with deeper insight into what drives behaviour.
When diverse personalities come together, even small misunderstandings can grow into major roadblocks. Crucial Teams uses the SDI® assessment to reveal each person’s core motives and communication preferences, helping teams understand where clashes occur and how to work better together.
- Reduce workplace friction by recognising and valuing different personalities
- Use SDI results to address root causes of miscommunication, not just surface behaviours
- Foster more respectful and productive working relationships
Psychological safety fuels team innovation and retention.
Create a workplace where people feel safe to speak up, contribute, and collaborate. Psychological safety fuels team innovation and retention. Crucial Teams improves this by helping team members interpret each other’s actions through a more generous lens, using insights from the SDI® platform. When people understand the intention behind behaviour, trust grows.
- Increase speaking up and participation in meetings and collaborative sessions
- Use SDI® insights to reduce misinterpretation and defensiveness, and improve trust and transparency across teams
- Enable more open and honest communication to build a team culture where all members feel heard and respected
Transform persistent issues into constructive conversations.
Unspoken tensions and recurring conflict can derail team performance. Crucial Teams helps participants recognise conflict triggers using the SDI® conflict sequence, which outlines how individuals respond under stress, and how to reset conversations before they escalate.
- Understand how different conflict styles impact team dynamics
- Use SDI® to identify and manage personal and team conflict styles -resolve underlying issues rather than avoiding or escalating them
- Shift conflict from combative to collaborative - promote a culture of openness and mutual accountability
Strengthen team unity by seeing differences as strengths.
Geographical separation, functional silos, and personality differences can limit collaboration. Crucial Teams helps teams see beyond surface-level roles by exploring SDI® motivational value systems, revealing the value each person brings and how to connect across differences.
- Break down communication barriers between departments or team members
- Use SDI® team insights to align around common goals while appreciating individual differences
- Build stronger cross-functional and remote team collaboration
Unlock higher performance through stronger relationships.
Teams don’t just need talent - they need trust and cohesion. Crucial Teams uses SDI® to uncover what drives each team member, helping people appreciate and leverage different strengths. The result? Teams that communicate more effectively, manage conflict better, and achieve more together.
- Apply SDI® insights to unlock individual and collective strengths, and improve decision-making, problem-solving, and collaboration
- Boost team morale and engagement
- Lay the foundation for sustained high performance

From Insight to Application
Crucial Teams goes beyond surface-level team building by using the scientifically validated SDI® to uncover what truly motivates your people, how they navigate conflict, and how to collaborate more effectively. Built on decades of social science research and over five million assessments, the SDI® offers more than personality insights - it provides a practical foundation for stronger working relationships.

The SDI is a personality and relationship assessment that helps people understand their core motives, strengths, and conflict triggers. Crucial Teams is built on the SDI and uses it as a foundation for building stronger team relationships and collaboration.
Who is Crucial Teams designed for?
Crucial Teams is ideal for any group working toward a shared goal, including intact or cross-functional teams looking to build trust and improve collaboration, new or forming teams (e.g. project-based teams) aiming to set a strong foundation, leaders and team members wanting to improve psychological safety and reduce friction, or organisations experiencing communication breakdowns or persistent team challenges. It’s most effective when experienced by team members who work together regularly.
